M I A M I

A quarter of 2019 has already passed and I am in the middle of finalizing my 2-week trip to Seoul, Korea. Earlier this year I have been visiting Athens, Greece (Check out the travel post here: ATHENS). However, my 2019 actually started on the beach in sunny Miami on January 1st. It was a quick two-night trip but I wouldn’t miss the chance to take some pics in the street-art famous Wynwood Art District. Get surprised by how colorful my Miami Photography Travel Post is.

| Shooting in Miami |

I usually plan my trips the following way. First, I browse famous sights of the city on Instagram to figure out if they fit my photography style. Second, by scrolling through the feed daily, I end up saving some pictures of places I might visit in the future. Finally, I check some related Hashtags for architecture and popular instagrammers from the area. All of this gives me a bit of insight on where to start exploring. However, that was not the case for my Miami Photography trip at all. Basically, I ended up traveling there on short notice and couldn’t do any research. That wasn’t a bad thing though since I had no fixed plan on what to shoot at all but more freedom to just explore.

I ended up spending the better half of a morning walking around Wynwood Art District. Known for it’s colorful facades, this district has become somewhat of a street-art paradise. I shot the image above at the entry of a car park which are usually not that colorful right? Not in Wynwood!

Even the backside areas of department stores are artsy. The black door in the image above caught my eye from a distance. Since the color scheme was already characterized by contrasting black and white I decided to just stand in front of the door, thereby adding another layer of contrast through me wearing a white shirt. I just wish to know what this building is used for: Maybe that’s where white zebras get their black stripes (or is it the other way around?)

Not shot in Wynwood, but close to the hotel I stayed I found an empty cart next to a minimal looking facade. Of course I had to do something silly with it (#TheSillySeries). It was actually not that easy to get inside the cart since it’s one of the small ones. However, it was even harder to get out again. Adding a focus point to a basic wall can create a much more interesting composition. I have noticed that I changed my photography style more towards adding passing people to my frame. That’s something I did far less frequently in 2018.

| Featured Photograph |

Stumbling across a love mural which was fenced off on a Sunday morning made me think about restrictions. I decided to use it as my featured photograph because of the deeper level of meaning compared to some other photographs of mine. In addition, I also submitted the image for Instagram’s Weekly Hashtag Project #WHPinspiredby.

Lastly, I’d like to end my Miami Photography Travel Post on a thoughtful note. The caption of the image reads:

Can you freely speak about love in your country?
It saddens me that though we live in such a modern world, there are still places where people have to live with restraints when it comes to what they feel and who they love. This photograph is inspired by all those people who fight for more acceptance in their society. Love is a universal language.
