I have always been in love with the metro system design in Stockholm. In 2020, I finally had to chance to explore many of the unique artworks scattered over the Swedish capitol. This travel post is dedicated to the metro stations only and I am leaving out all the great buildings at or above ground level for another time visiting this beautiful city.

| Shooting in Stockholm|

I had two full days of exploring Stockholm. Many of the spots I wanted to visit were located near the city center or not too far away in general. Only a few spots were at the outskirts of the city. I didn’t get to visit them all because of that but that’s perfectly fine. There is always a next time, right?

Pro tip: If you plan on seeing all of the metro station designs for yourself, I can only advice you to get a day ticket or 3-day ticket respectively.

| Stockholm Subway Spots |

This list includes my 8 Top Stockholm Subway Stations. There are a few more stations I must check out another time. So don’t forget to check my suggestions at the end of this post.

1. Rådhuset T-bana

I love this subway station. The dark tones of the ground match so well with the vivid orange tones. Almost seems to be like a secret entrance to some hidden underground facilty.

2. Stadion T-bana

Who said you could find rainbows outdoors? This lovely light-blue design brightens up your day by just looking at it. Moreover, who doesn’t like rainbows? Like really?

In addition, for the second image I used my 12mm ultra wide lens to get all of the rainbow into the frame.

3. Universitetet T-bana

My third spot on this Top Stockholm Subway Stations list focuses on the emergency entrance rather than the actual station. Walk all the way to the very end to get to this wonderul running man design. If you dare, check out the huge old hall behind those doors.

4. Odenplan T-bana

This stunning (pun intended) light installation at Odenplan sure makes for a great photography spot. Especially the smooth surface helped to create an extra reflection.

If you prefer a brighter, cleaner image instead, you can easily overexpose the shot like I did with the image below.

5. T-Centralen

After orange, light blue and white tones, T-Centralen offers a darker look to explore. Fun fact: the image below was shot through glass panels capturing the long symmetrical escalators to the upper level.

Same station, but right at the exit this time, you get this beautiful white semi-lookup. Be aware that it is usually super busy here. I waited for about 20 minutes to get an emptier moment.

6. Huvudsta T-bana

Going down the color palette we finally reach green tones at this subway station. We are now more at the outskirts of the city though it’s very easy to get here using the blue line. For the image below I rotated the frame by 180 degrees to create this perspective twist.

Another great angle is the classic escalator view you have seen a few times now. The splash of green color to the ceiling sure makes for a great experience.

7. Solna strand

Since we are already using the blue line to get to the prior subway station, let’s just take one more stop. Although less colorful, the blue cubes add a great dimension to this place. It’s almost like bringing the blue sky into a dark place.

8. Kungsträdgården

Lastly, the final spot on my Top Stockholm Subway Stations mixes red, white and black tones. If you look closely, you will even spot nuclear icons on the ceiling. Overall, this subway station is much darker than the others. There is even an archeology sight with running water from the walls to check out.

More Spots to visit

Even though I managed to cover quite a lot of subway stations in just two full days, there are a few more places I want to visit another time. These include:

  • Mörby Centrum T-bana
  • Tekniska Högskolan T-bana
  • Tensta T-bana
  • Thorildsplan T-bana
  • Solna Centrum T-bana
  • Hötorget T-bana
  • Hallonbergen T-bana

Final thoughts

To conclude this article, I am glad I used a weekend to explore Top Stockholm Subway Stations from a photography point of view this time around. I am planning to do more of such short travels since they are quite efficient and take less planning just like I did with Hamburg . See you for the next travel post 😉
